Project Description
Special Patching
(SP-21-001 & SP-21-002)
Indianapolis, Indiana
The City of Indianapolis has faced deteriorating roadways throughout the City. Winter weather and frequent freezing and thawing result in new failures that are often more deep seated than the City’s maintenance crews doing typical pothole patching can consistently repair. For this reason, several contractor’s were contracted to open their asphalt plants in what would typically be offseason for asphalt paving and provide strip patching of significantly deteriorated roadways as needed. The strip patching consists of milling large sections of a street that exhibits a significant number of failures and repaving the section, while leaving well performing pavement in place. The roadway segments are then placed into the evaluation to be included in future resurfacing projects.
7NT provided inspection services supporting the strip patching efforts. In addition to typical construction inspection services of ensuring completion of work in accordance with specifications, tracking quantities, and processing project paperwork; 7NT was charged with determining the locations in most need and coordinating the execution of the work with the contractors. Daily evaluation of new roadway segments for consideration and prioritization was integral in the successful completion of the work by the contractors.
